Joining a new practice should feel straightforward. Here’s what happens at your first visit, what it costs and how to arrange it.
Step by step
Your first visit
Your first appointment is a new patient consultation: a chance to get to know each other, check the health of your teeth and gums, and talk about anything you’d like to change.

Call or email us to arrange a new patient consultation. Let us know if anything is worrying you, or if you have particular access needs.
Talk it through
We’ll ask about your health and what you’d like from your visit, then carry out a careful examination, with X-rays only if they’re needed.
Agree next steps
We’ll explain what we’ve found and any options, with their costs. Take the time you need to decide, and if nothing needs doing, we’ll simply say so.
Before you come
What to bring
It helps to have a few details to hand:
- A list of any medicines you take, including inhalers and anything from a pharmacy
- Details of any medical conditions, or recent changes to your health
- Your previous dentist’s details, if you have them
If you feel anxious
Nervous about the dentist?
You’re far from alone. Tell us when you book, and again when you arrive. We’ll take things at your pace, explain what we’re doing before we do it, and stop whenever you ask.
If there’s something particular that worries you (a past experience, a sound, a sensation), let us know. It helps us look after you.
